I find this oddly fascinating and comforting. Live-ish tracking of updates to Wikipedia, plotted on a world map. Makes me feel connected to the world in a weird way.

I thought I should go ahead with my initial premise of funny cats. SERIOUSLY THOUGH, if you don’t like this you are made of stone. Not even one of the nice types of stone either, just like rubble or something.

VC Film Club - Princess Mononoke (1997)
So I got an email from my ex-Japanese teacher last week saying there would be a special screening of this Studio Ghibli movie at the local gallery (how arthouse am I? I mean literally that could not be more arthouse). So I braved the ferocious Arctic winds to see it. Despite missing the start it felt worth it, even though I have the DVD.
If I’m brutally honest, it’s never been my favourite Ghibli movie. It would be rather boring to blindly say I love all their movies, that’s like saying you love all Hollywood movies. The tone is serious throughout, and constitutes your basic “damn you Earth-raping humans!” parable, garnished with Japanese mythology and folklore.
The boy/girl dynamic of warrior Ashitaka and feral she-wolf San doesn’t do as much as the duo in Laputa but it’s all very conscientious and I have trouble being too critical of it. A decent movie but not enough forest magic, and sadly not the best entry-level Ghibli movie for Westerners.

OK I have had several aborted attempts to document my life, including several near-mint diaries and a blog now consigned to the big Page 404 in the sky (poor deleted Sushi Bolifushi, we barely knew ye). So I will start briefly with one of these questionnaires that I nicked. I will rush it though because I need to go out at 6.30.

Favorite band: I hate picking favourites, but at the risk of coming over all cliche, if I had to rescue a music act from a burning building containing everyone (the HUMANITY) it would be old Madonna with her nan hands.
Future career: Oh god I wish I knew. I am flirting with the idea of teaching English in Japan but I’m too SCARED right now.
Plans for summer: None really, but it’s being bookended with my first ever Eurovision in May and a possible excursion to the South of France on the cheap in August-ish. That’s summer though I suppose, so THAT.
Most embarrassing moment: My whole life to this point is an embarassing work in progress.
An inside joke that always makes you laugh: Patricia Routledge. I just love the way the words feel in my mouth.
How are you feeling?: I’m chilly as my computer desk is currently right by a massive heat-sucking window. Once my router has been on for 10 days like they said I can move it around. Also I can start looking at porn without people seeing in from outside. Also feeling obliged to go to a special screening of a movie because the lady on the phone seemed so excited that someone had asked for tickets.
What are your plans for tomorrow? Work, gym (tbc), food and then go to my sister’s house for my nephew’s birthday thing.
What’s your favourite saying/lyric/line?: I don’t think I am emo enough to have one, I’m sure there is a shortlist, I’ll get back to you.
Anything else? I currently have a twitch in my left eye and I’m trying to work out what’s causing it. Are they just random, or - the more romantic option - is there some hidden psychological reason? Hopefully not.
